WELCOME

We warmly welcome you to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. No matter who you are––whatever you believe, whether you come from far away or near––everyone is welcome in this faith community. Whether you are believers or know not what to believe––if you be hopeful or those without hope—if you are bold or bashful, uplifted by your dreams or weighted by your nightmares––you are welcome and shall be warmly embraced and cherished.

St. Matthew’s has a century’s old legacy of bearing witness to the living God—Jesus—who overcoming envy, malice, and greed shows that God’s love is stronger even than humankind’s indifference to humility, integrity, and wonder.

These days we endeavor to make a difference, in the hearts and lives of this community of faith, as well as the wider community and world beyond. We invite you to enter in to discover what Christ may have in store for you and your family.

Come for worship. Come for fellowship. Simply come!

WHAT TO EXPECT

When you visit for the first time

Come as you are! No dress code required. Our sanctuary and all spaces in our building are fully accessible. We are an inclusive community and we welcome visitors at any time.

When you approach St. Matthew’s from 36 New Canaan Road in Wilton and enter the parking lot, you will notice that there are two churches! Wilton Presbyterian Church is the red brick structure to your right and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church is the white painted brick structure on your left.

To enter St. Matthew's, walk through the open courtyard and turn left. You will enter a space we call the Narthex, a foyer and gathering space. Here name tags are available as well as a place to hang your coat if you wish. An usher will greet you with a Service Bulletin which will contain all that you need to participate in worship as you enter the Sanctuary, our worship space.

Children of all ages are welcome at worship. There is a picture book rack and worship bag in the Narthex for your child to take in the pew. There is also a "soft space" in the back of the sanctuary that has a bit more room for your little one to play while you participate in worship. If you would like childcare please ask an usher and they will guide you to the Nursery (3 years or younger) or Church School (PreK––7th Grade).

We won’t ask you to stand to be recognized and you can participate in whatever way you feel comfortable. We hope that you will fill out the Visitor’s Card in the pew and leave it behind so that we can be in touch. We’d like to get to know you and help you get to know us.

Following worship, please stay for refreshment in the Narthex. There you will find a guest book to sign and a chance to speak with any member of the congregation or clergy about St. Matthew’s if you are so inclined.

If you are visiting during the week, you can stop by the Church Office by going straight through the courtyard to the door marked "church offices;" please ring the bell if needed!
