La Fiocco
The next installation of The Arts at St. Matthew’s is coming up on Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 pm, when La Fiocco will present an evening of early music.
La Fiocco is an early-music ensemble of the highest quality, performing music of the 17th and 18th centuries on period instruments. Their mission is to introduce people of all ages to the music of the Baroque and early Classical eras. Read more about them here.
Their program at St. Matthew’s will feature, amongst a wide variety of music, some music by black fiddlers at Monticello. It illuminates the musical traditions and genealogy of the descendents of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, as well as their important contributions to music. Artistic Director Lewis Baratz will present a pre-concert talk on Zoom beforehand on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30pm, providing some background and musical history to the project.
This event is part of The Arts at St. Matthew’s 2023–24 season and is ticketed at $30 per person, $10 for students. To purchase tickets or subscriptions for the other concerts in the 2023–24 series, click here.
All attendees are welcome to stay for a reception afterwards in the Lounge, where light refreshments will be served.
