Irina Georgieva joined St. Matthewâs from First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield, where she served as Music Director for Traditional Worship. Prior to moving to Connecticut, she directed the music program at St. Johnâs Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain, MA.
Irina is an Associate Professor of Conducting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, teaching in the Department of Composition within the Professional Writing Division since 2014. In 2024, she became the Music Director of Cappella Cantorum MasterWorks Chorus in Old Saybrook, CT.
Throughout her career, Irina has led numerous choirs and orchestras and taught at several higher education institutions such as Cornell University, the University of Rochester, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Sacred Heart University.
Irina holds a bachelorâs degree in Choral Conducting from the State Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, a Master of Music in Conducting from Northwestern University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music.
Residing in Trumbull, CT with her family, Irina loves to travel and enjoys spending time in nature.
