An Invitation
Dear friends and members of St. Matt’s,
This afternoon, I’m writing with a special invitation for you. Some of you will remember that a little less than a year ago we celebrated the marriage of Nora Neus and Lex Gaillard. (Hooray!) Since then, Nora has begun a new chapter – literally – pursuing her love of writing and telling important and really fascinating stories. As Christians, we are people who belong to a story. All of who we are is bound up in the story of God and God’s people. And we believe in the power of stories to transform. We know that stories matter, and that God is in the midst of them.
I’m so excited to share with you that Nora has agreed to spend some time with us this fall to tell us two important stories in two different formats. And if you’re not familiar with Nora’s work, you can read a little bit about her here. I’ll give you more information as the date approaches. For now, I can say that Nora will join us on Sunday, October 22nd to lead a forum about her new book 24 Hours in Charlottesville: An Oral History of White Supremacy. And then, later that day, will hold a special workshop for kids about her first book, Muhammed Najem, War Reporter: How One Boy Put the Spotlight on Syria. Save the dates will come soon. I’m so glad Nora will be with us and will share all of this with us, our kids, and our community. And I’m grateful for her time and for all that she’ll share with us.
And – as I mentioned – I’m writing now with a special invitation. You can join Nora virtually this week for the livestream of her book launch on Tuesday, July 18th at 7pm. You can RSVP and join online here. This is a great opportunity to hear from Nora in advance of her visit. I know how much some of you love to have a head start! Then you can look forward with me to the fall when Nora will be with us in person!
I was glad to see so many of you this morning. And look forward to seeing you soon.
Faithfully,
–Marissa +
