This summer, send your kids to "Sounds Fun!" summer music camp! Running from Monday, June 27 until Friday, July 1, this camp offers five full days—9am to 2pm—of musical fun. This camp is open to kids who are in preK–2nd grade in the 2021–22 school year. The tuition fee is $275 per child, but scholarships are available for those families with financial hardship.
"Music makes you smarter." With this theme of the week, each day will focus on a different way that music helps kids' development, making them smarter, more creative, and more social people. Activities will include:
- Learning about the families of musical instruments and inventing our own using household items.
- Listening to the musical sounds we find in nature—birdsong and animal calls.
- Learn about the solar system, using Holst's The Planets for musical aid.
- Exploring musical rhythm using LEGOs to practice and create our own.
- Listening to a little of Vivaldi's Four Seasons and creating artwork related to the seasons of the year.
Over the course of the whole week, the campers will work on creating a brand new composition together, as well as learning fun songs and rounds to sing together. At the end of the camp, we will share all this music with you, the parents, in a special mini-concert! On top of these musical activities, "Sounds Fun!" will feature plenty of time for playing outdoors and making friends.
"Sounds Fun!" takes place at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, part of the WEPCO complex, at 36 New Canaan Road, Wilton. Drop-off in the mornings will be 8:45–9:00am, and then pick-up at the end of the day will be 2:00–2:15pm. On Friday, July 1, parents/guardians are invited to watch the presentation of the week's activities, starting at 1:00pm. Children should bring their own lunch, snack, and water each day.
"Sounds Fun!" is directed by Andrew Leslie Cooper, a British-American professional musician with an extensive background in education. Read more about him here. Andrew gathered a substantial following on social media over the COVID lockdowns with virtual performanes such as the one below. See more of Andrew's performances here.
