Lectors
The Ministry of a Lector
During worship, lectors assist in being the transmitters of God’s Word, reading the Old Testament and New Testament lessons in the context of our liturgy. When we take our place at the lectern and open the Bible to read, we are no less actors – storytellers of God’s Story. We strive to re-create, through their lines written thousands of years ago, to bring the Word of God alive to our world in the 21st century. At St. Matthew’s, lectors also serve as Intercessors, leading the congregation in the Prayers of the People.
Lectors serve at the 10:00am service and other special liturgies such as Evensong and Holy Week services and are scheduled approximately every six weeks. Anyone in 8thgrade or up are welcome to participate in this ministry, with training available. Contact Sharon Pearson for more information.
