Children and Youth Choirs
The Choir of Boys & Girls
Girls and Boys in grades 2-5
In the Choir of Boys & Girls, children learn to sing in a wonderfully refined way, becoming very intelligent young musicians. They develop their music reading skills and expand their vocal range. They have a sense of commitment to their important role in worship, and have a great time working together to sing beautiful sacred music together. The Thursday afternoon rehearsal time is “bus-friendly” so the choir can be part of your family’s afternoon schedule more easily. Novice (new) 2nd grade choristers may have a slightly different rehearsal time that will work better for their afterschool schedules. The choir sings in church three Sundays per month throughout the school year.
The Youth Choir
Girls grade 6-12 and Boys grade 6 through voice change
These talented young people are a core of the music program at St. Matthew’s, being a crossover with the Adult Choir and the Choir of Boys & Girls. They help to teach the younger ones and be models of chorister knowledge, singing, and behavior as their rehearsal overlaps the timing of the younger ones’ practice. In addition, they have time on their own to work on the advanced books in the RSCM Voice for Life program, along with spending time together singing more advanced repertoire, and exploring their relationships as they grow. The Youth Choir rehearses on Thursday afternoon and sings in church 3-4 Sundays a month.
