St. Matt's Reads: Summer Book Group
We have selected a book for a parish-wide read for the summer! Barking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship by Father Gregory Boyle. In the book, Father Greg talks about his experience working with gang members in Los Angeles. Service is really about discovering our kinship, he says and "our common calling to delight in one another."
You can buy the book here.
From the Amazon review: "This book is guaranteed to shake up our ideas about God and about people with a glimpse at a world defined by more compassion and fewer barriers. Gently and humorously, Barking to the Choir invites us to find kinship with one another and re-convinces us all of our own goodness."
Keep on the look out for Marissa's reflection on the book and read what other parishoners are feeling as they read the stories of the members of Homeboy Industries, the organization founded by Father Greg. You can also visit our private St. Matthew's Parishioner Group on Facebook to discuss the book.
In the Fall, we'll host several get togethers where we can share what we've learned and how it relates to our own community.
To hear Father Greg talk about his work, you can listen to this podcast where he talks with On Being host Krista Tippet.
