Consecration Events
Dear friends and members of St. Matt's,
Thank you for such a lovely and wonderful day yesterday. We had a glorious kickoff to our program year.
This email comes to invite you to take part in the Consecration week of our new Bishop. First, if you didn't have a chance to opt in to our parish tickets, you can register for the Consecration on 10/15 by clicking here. Tickets for the public went live today. There won't be assigned seating at the Consecration, so you could register and still sit with the great group of folks that are going from St. Matt's.
On Sunday of that weekend (10/16), we're also going to do things a little bit differently so that we can participate in the larger Church's life. As is the custom, we've been invited to worship at our Cathedral in Hartford and to witness and participate in the Seating of the Bishop. This is a rare thing, and it's a special liturgy. It begins with an ancient custom - where the new Bishop stands outside and uses his or her crozier to knock on the door. Then the Dean symbolically lets the Bishop in and he (in this case) takes his seat at the cathedral. On that Sunday, you will have a few different options for worship. You can:
- Come to the Cathedral with me. I will send an email when the registration link goes live, you'll register yourself and we'll worship together in Hartford that morning.
- Watch the stream from the Cathedral at home. I'll share that information in our e-news.
- Come to St. Matthew's where there will be Morning Prayer and Church School.
- Watch the stream from St. Matthew's at home.
I hope that many of you will choose to come north with me to share in this festive occasion. If you want to register for a ticket for the seating on Sunday at our Cathedral in Hartford, you'll find registration here. For this one, in particular, if you'd like to come, it's important that you register soon as there are fewer seats at the Cathedral than at the Convention Center.
Please let me know if you have any questions for me. Our regular e-news will come out later in the week. I look forward to sharing this special weekend with you in one way or another.
Faithfully,
--Marissa +
