Sabbath by the Sea: A Retreat for Women with the Sisters of the Society of St. Margaret
February 6-8, 2020
We'll begin on Thursday night (2/6) and end with worship on Saturday morning (2/8). Registration is $185 and includes two nights in an individual room (shared bathrooms) and meals from dinner on Thursday through breakfast on Saturday. If you can, please plan to arrive on Thursday by 5:30 in order to share dinner with the community.
To reserve your spot, please make checks payable to St. Matthew's and write "Sabbath by the Sea" in the memo line before December 30th, 2019.
Save the date and come away for a special time of retreat and refreshment. Travel to the Motherhouse of the Society of St. Margaret in Duxbury, MA. The Society of St. Margaret is a community of Episcopal nuns who live and serve God together in Massachusetts, Haiti, and New York City. In Duxbury, their property runs right up to the water, offering a beautiful spot for rest, searching, and contemplation.
Spend a few days breathing in the cold, salt air. Pray with the sisters, share meals with the sisters and with other women of the parish. Settle into the silence of the evening and make room for God to reach you in new ways. Some group activities will be planned around the theme of sabbath and rest. How do we find God and God's sabbath in the midst of our busy lives? How do we connect our story to the larger story of God?
Retreat is one of the great gifts of the church. A retreat isn't a vacation or a trip, it's intentional time away when we change our patterns and make room for God. So, in perfect retreat fashion, you may choose whether or not you'd like to participate in group activities. Everyone is encouraged to participate in communal meals, worship with the Sisters, and to respect the rhythms of monastic life, including the Great Silence (which begins after the last worship service at night and ends mid-morning). God very often comes to us in the quiet when we wait.
This year, as we're just trying this on, we have a limited number of slots - so if you're interested, please say so soon. We'll stay in a house together right near the water. Interested in coming? Have questions? Want more information about registration? Send Marissa a note.
Come and find your sabbath, the rest God is storing up for you. Set some time aside to rest and return to God. Come experience sabbath by the sea.
