Musical highlights this Christmas
What sweeter music can we bring,
Than a carol, for to sing
The birth of this our heavenly King?
Awake the voice! Awake the string!
(Robert Herrick)
This Christmas, St. Matthew's Church Choir and Andrew, our Director of Music, are excited to bring you festive musical offerings to accompany our worship. Read below to discover what's in store:
Christmas Eve
As always, our services on Christmas Eve will begin with half an hour of musical Prelude (beginning at 3:30pm and 8:30pm respectively). This year, you will treated to music from the Choir, the organ, and a guest ensemble, Wholly Brass. Read more about them here.
During the service itself, we will sing Missa Carolae, a setting of the service music for choir, organ, brass, and flute by James Whitbourn. It is based around classic Christmas Carols such as Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, Sing we now of Christmas, and Good Christian Friends, Rejoice.
And what would Christmas be without the music of John Rutter? Our anthem at the offertory will be his piece Angels' Carol.
Andrew will cap off the service with the famous Organ Toccata by Charles-Marie Widor as the Postlude.

10:00am Lessons & Carols Service on the First Sunday after Christmas
Come to church in your pajamas and with your voice warmed up! With the choir on their holiday break, it will be your turn to raise your voice on your favorite Christmas Carol.
If a former choir member you know is visiting for the holidays, put them in touch with Andrew and invite them to sing in the choir on Christmas Eve.
