Ash Wednesday - February 17th, 2021
Each year, our observance of the season of Lent begins with a special ritual on Ash Wednesday. As the church invites us into a holy Lent, to repentance and fasting, to prayer and reflection, Ash Wednesday reminds us uniquely of our mortality. While it is a somber day, and the ashes are a continuation of an ancient ritual of penitence before God, the purpose of the day is to remind us to return to the Lord. To remember that even though we are dust, our God has good plans for us. And we need to depend not on ourselves and our own strength, but on the grace and love of God.
We hope you'll join us for this special ritual, even though it looks a little different this year. We will have two opportunities to worship, the first a brief service at 7am in a Zoom room. The second a 7pm service on Facebook and on the website.
If you signed up to pick up ashes, come by the church any time and check the bins in the circle outside St. Matt's. You don't need to have picked up ashes to participate. You're always welcome.
