8th Grade Confirmation

St. Matthew's 8th graders can receive the sacrament of confirmation. It is a time when the confirmands reaffirm the promises that were made for them when they were baptized and receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. Each confirmand makes an individual choice whether or not to be confirmed after a time of preparation that begins in September and concludes with confirmation in May.

Confirmands immerse themselves in the full life of the church by taking part in service projects such as Rake and Roll and a visit to the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen in New York City, by participating in 7th and 8th grade Youth Group meetings on Wednesdays that are coordinated with the confirmation class topics, and by attending classes that explore the foundation of who we are as Christians and Episcopalians.

Confirmands attend both a Catholic and a Jewish service in order to have an experience in other faith traditions that helps in understanding our own more fully. They are supported as they serve as lectors, intercessors, acolytes and ushers throughout the year and also have an adult mentor to share this journey.
Becky and Steve Hudspeth teach the confirmation class and welcome all questions (beckyhuds@gmail.com, 203 834-0943).

Youth older than 8th grade are invited to prepare for confirmation by joining "The God Class" taught during Lent by our rector, the Rev. Mary Grace Willliams. If you have any additional questions, please call 203 762-7400.
