Working with Jerusalem Peacebuilders
St. Matthew’s is one of many houses of worship partnering with The Jerusalem Peacebuilders, which consists of visiting Jewish, Muslim and Christian youth from Israel and Palestine, for a day of service on Sunday August 7th to serve the city of New Haven.
The St. Matthew’s community was introduced to this opportunity, and its supporting organization, through the founder, the Rev. Canon Nicholas Porter (who will be with us and preaching on May 22). The mission of Jerusalem Peacebuilders as an interfaith, non-profit organization is “to create a better future for humanity across religions, cultures, and nationalities. Integral to that mission is the belief that the future of Jerusalem is the future of the world. To that end, JPB promotes transformational, person-to-person encounters among the peoples of Jerusalem, Israel, Palestine, and the United States.”
Our parish believes wholeheartedly in the importance of building loving relationships across religious difference. We have a long history of participating in this work in Wilton and beyond. This is yet another opportunity for us to put our love into action.
Please plan to join us at church on Sunday, May 22nd at 10am to hear from the Rev. Canon Porter. Please also plan to stay after church that day for a special forum he'll lead about Jerusalem Peacebuilders.
Then, join us on August 7th as we put our faith in action, work alongside our brothers and sisters of faith and demonstrate what peace and love for our neighbor look like. While this is taking place during our usual Sunday morning service, we’re hoping many of you will consider this your worship for that day.
You can read more about the specifics of the service day here.
